Egypt Monorail: Both Lines, Every Station and Living Near Them
The Egypt monorail explained: the East Nile line's 22 stations from Nasr City to the New Capital, the West Nile line's 13 stations, dates from the Ministry of Transport, and what homes near the stations cost.

Key takeaways
- The East Nile line runs 56.5 km with 22 stations from Cairo Stadium in Nasr City to the City of Justice in the New Capital; all 22 have been open since 27 June 2026.
- Eight East Nile stations are inside New Cairo, including El Narges, Investors, Lotus and Golden Square.
- The West Nile line runs 43.8 km with 13 stations from New October to Wadi El Nile; the ministry set trial running of its first eight stations for October 2026 and the rest for early 2027.
- Alstom, Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors built the lines for the National Authority for Tunnels; the trains are driverless.
- In October 2026 developers offered entry units from about EGP 7.0 to 9.0 million in Golden Square, Mostakbal City and Sheikh Zayed, on plans of 6 to 10 years.

The Egypt monorail is two driverless lines: the East Nile line, 56.5 km and 22 stations from Nasr City to the City of Justice in the New Capital, fully open since 27 June 2026, and the West Nile line, 43.8 km and 13 stations from New October to Mohandessin, whose first trial running was set for October 2026. Most of its eastern stations sit in districts listed on Compounds in New Cairo and Compounds in New Capital City.
This guide does two things. It lays out both lines station by station from the Ministry of Transport's own statements and the builder's announcements, each with its date. Then it looks at the question a buyer actually asks: is it worth choosing a home near a station, and what does that cost in the districts the line runs through? The cost figures are developers' published numbers on Masharf, read in October 2026.
What is the Egypt monorail?
It is a pair of elevated lines built for the National Authority for Tunnels by a consortium of Alstom, Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors, using Alstom's Innovia monorail trains. Alstom announced on 6 May 2026 that commercial service had begun on the first part of the East Nile line, which it described as Africa's first monorail system, with fully driverless signalling and platform screen doors at the stations. The company rated the system at up to 45,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
The two lines do not meet. One serves the eastern arc of Greater Cairo, from Nasr City through New Cairo to the government quarter of the New Capital. The other serves the west, from the new districts of 6th of October through Sheikh Zayed and along the 26th of July Corridor towards the Nile. People searching for "monorail Egypt" usually mean the eastern line, because it is the one running in full.
| East Nile line | West Nile line | |

| Stations | 22 | 13 |
| Ends | Cairo Stadium (Nasr City) to City of Justice (New Capital) | New October to Wadi El Nile (Mohandessin) |
| Status | First 16 stations from 6 May 2026; all 22 from 27 June 2026 | Trial running of 8 stations set for October 2026; the rest in the first quarter of 2027 |

Monorail Egypt stations: the East Nile line
The Ministry of Transport opened the line in two steps. The first 16 stations, from El Mosheer Tantawy to the City of Justice, opened to passengers on Wednesday 6 May 2026. The remaining six, from Cairo Stadium to El Mosheer Tantawy, followed on 27 June 2026, which the minister announced on 26 June. These are the 22 stations in order from the Nasr City end, with the district each one sits in:
| # | Station | Area it serves | Opened |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cairo Stadium | Nasr City | 27 June 2026 |
| 2 | Hisham Barakat | Second phase, towards Nasr City | 27 June 2026 |
| 3 | Al-Azhar University | Second phase, towards Nasr City | 27 June 2026 |
| 4 | Seventh District | Second phase, towards Nasr City | 27 June 2026 |
| 5 | Field Marshal Ahmed Ismail | Second phase, towards Nasr City | 27 June 2026 |
| 6 | Jehan El-Sadat | Second phase, towards Nasr City | 27 June 2026 |
| 7 | El Mosheer Tantawy | New Cairo, start of the first phase | 6 May 2026 |
| 8 | One Ninety | New Cairo, 90th Street | 6 May 2026 |
| 9 | Air Force Hospital | New Cairo | 6 May 2026 |
| 10 | El Narges | New Cairo | 6 May 2026 |
| 11 | Investors | New Cairo, Investors districts | 6 May 2026 |
| 12 | Lotus | New Cairo, Lotus | 6 May 2026 |
| 13 | Golden Square | New Cairo, Golden Square | 6 May 2026 |
| 14 | Beit El Watan | New Cairo, eastern extension | 6 May 2026 |
| 15 | Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 16 | R1 District | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 17 | R2 District | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 18 | Finance and Business District | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 19 | Arts and Culture City | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 20 | Government District | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 21 | Misr Mosque | New Capital | 6 May 2026 |
| 22 | City of Justice | New Capital, end of the line | 6 May 2026 |
Read as a map, the line leaves Nasr City, runs through its northern and eastern districts (El Narges, Investors, Lotus, Golden Square) and then crosses into the New Capital's residential districts and government quarter. By our reading of the station names, eight of the 22 stations serve New Cairo, which is why the line matters more to New Cairo homeowners than to anyone else.

If the New Cairo station names are new to you, New Cairo districts explains which settlement each one sits in.
The West Nile line: 13 stations from 6th of October to the Nile
On 27 August 2026 the Ministry of Transport said trial running of the western line would begin in October 2026 on eight stations, between New October and the Alexandria Desert Road, and that the section from the desert road to Wadi El Nile in Mohandessin was scheduled for trials in the first quarter of 2027. Its 13 stations, in order from the west, are:
- New October
- Ahram Canadian University
- Sadat
- 6th of October University
- Engineers Syndicate
- Mall of Egypt
- Sheikh Zayed City
- Alexandria Road
- Mansouriya
- Mariouteya
- Ring Road
- Bashteel
- Wadi El Nile
The same statement put the line at 43.8 km with a top speed of 80 km/h, said all 30 trains had been delivered (four cars each, expandable to eight), and quoted the National Authority for Tunnels as expecting about 500,000 passengers a day once it is fully running. The control centre and main workshop cover about 80 feddans. In Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October the line runs along the 26th of July Corridor: on 13 September 2025 the Housing Minister inspected the widening of the corridor's central island beneath the monorail, between the desert road junction and the Wahat Road. More on that junction is in our guide to the Cairo Alexandria Desert Road.

Egypt monorail map: which districts gain the most?
A station adds most to a district when three things are true: people already live there, the roads around it are crowded at peak hours, and the station is within walking distance of homes rather than of empty plots. On that test, the New Cairo stretch of the East Nile line (El Narges, Investors, Lotus, Golden Square) is where the effect shows first, because those districts are built up and their roads already carry heavy traffic. In the New Capital, the stations serve the government quarter and new residential districts that are still filling up, so the benefit grows as people move in.
On the western line, the stations in Sheikh Zayed and along the 26th of July Corridor serve districts that have been lived in for years, while the stations at the October end serve newer areas with universities and large plots still being built. For a family that drives everywhere, the line will not replace the car. Its value to an owner is different: a home near a station has a wider pool of tenants if you ever rent it out, including people who do not drive.
| District on the line | Unit type | Projects counted | Median developer starting figure (EGP) | Read on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golden Square, New Cairo | All types | 5 | 7,590,000 | 23 October 2026 |
| Lotus, New Cairo | All types | 8 | 9,902,834 | 19 October 2026 |
| North Investors, New Cairo | Apartment | 5 | 14,048,563 | 19 October 2026 |
| New Capital | Apartment | 68 | 5,990,000 | 24 October 2026 |
| Sheikh Zayed | Apartment | 22 | 8,900,000 | 25 October 2026 |
| 6th of October | Apartment | 42 | 6,000,000 | 25 October 2026 |

These medians come from developers' own starting figures in our catalogue, without resale offers. Areas with fewer than five projects are left out. Read with a budget of seven to ten million over about ten years in mind, the table shows that Golden Square and the Lotus sit inside that range at their medians, the New Capital and 6th of October sit below it, and North Investors sits above it.

Living near a monorail station: homes where the developer is selling
These five projects sit in districts the two lines run through, according to their own pages, and each had a unit from the developer inside a seven to ten million budget in October 2026. We do not quote walking distances to stations; ask us to measure the one you care about on the map before you decide.
| Project | District | Entry unit from the developer | Plan | Handover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boutique Village New Cairo | Golden Square, New Cairo | 70 m² one-bedroom, EGP 7,485,000 | 10% down, 10 years | October 2029 |
| The Red Residence New Cairo | Golden Square, New Cairo | 46 m² studio, EGP 7,590,000 | 10% down, 7 years | June 2029 |
| Beta Greens Compound New Cairo | Mostakbal City, New Cairo | 79 m² one-bedroom, EGP 7,850,000 | 10% down, 6 years | October 2026 |
| ZED Project El Sheikh Zayed | Central Sheikh Zayed | 60 m² studio, EGP 9,000,000 | 10 years | October 2030 |
| Village West Dorra El Sheikh Zayed | Sheikh Zayed | One-bedroom, 65 to 95 m², from EGP 7,000,000 | 10% down, 8 years | January 2028 |
Boutique Village and The Red Residence are both in Golden Square, the district that gives the East Nile line one of its stations; the first is the longer plan, the second the smaller entry unit. Beta Greens is in Mostakbal City, and its page puts Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque, the name of one of the line's New Capital stations, about four minutes' drive away; it is also the nearest handover in this list. On the western side, ZED sits in the middle of Sheikh Zayed and Village West about three minutes from the 26th of July Corridor, by its page.

For the developers' units around the stations, by city and type: Apartments for Sale in New Cairo along the East Nile line, Apartments for Sale in New Capital City at its eastern end, and Townhouses for Sale in 6th of October City on the West Nile line.
Does a monorail station raise property values?
We will not put a number on it, because no official source has published one for Egypt's lines and the eastern line has been fully open only since June 2026. What we can say from our own catalogue is where developers were already pricing in October 2026, as in the table above. If you are buying for the station, buy for the reasons that hold even if the effect is slower than the brochure promises: a district you would happily drive in and out of, a handover date you can live with, and a plan you can carry for its whole length.
One caution, with the reason: a project's distance to a station matters only if there is a safe way to walk from the gate to the platform, so check the crossing as well as the distance on the map.

What usually stops buyers near the line
Handover. The five projects above hand over between October 2026 and October 2030. A unit due in 2029 or 2030 means three to four more years of rent alongside instalments, so weigh that against the shorter plans of the nearer handovers.
Down payment. Most entry units here ask 10% on signing, which on these figures means about 700,000 to 785,000 pounds before the first instalment.
Developer or resale. Every figure in this guide is the developer's current figure. Older districts along both lines also trade between owners, but that is a different market and we keep it out of these numbers.

How to use the monorail when choosing a home
- Decide which line matters. If your work, school and club are in New Cairo or the New Capital, only the East Nile line is relevant; if they are in Sheikh Zayed or 6th of October, watch the West Nile line's trial dates.
- Check the station by name, then the district. A station called Golden Square or Lotus tells you the district; our district pages list every project in it.
- Measure the walk from the gate, not from the project's centre. Big projects can be a kilometre from end to end.
- Do not pay extra for a station that is still on paper. On the western line, only the first eight stations had a trial date at the time of the ministry's August 2026 statement.

For every project in the districts along the eastern line, start with Compounds in New Cairo and Compounds in New Capital City; for the western line, see Compounds in 6th of October City and Compounds in El Sheikh Zayed.
